About Speech with Mia

Practice Overview

Speech with Mia specialises in supporting children aged 1 to 7 years with communication difficulties.

Owner and senior speech and language therapist, Mia works with young children who may be experiencing, speech sound difficulties, and/or challenges with understanding and using words and sentences. She has a special interest in working with children growing up in multilingual households.

Mia uses a family-centred, play-based approach, to create a warm and supportive environment where children can grow their confidence to communicate and parents feel empowered with practical strategies they can use at home.

Early intervention and strong parent involvement are at the heart of her practice, ensuring each child receives personalised support that fits naturally into everyday family life.

My story

Senior Speech & Language Pathologist

Hi, I’m Mia 👋

I was born in France into a multicultural and multilingual family and have lived in France, Cameroon, Dubai, the United Kingdom, New Zealand, Australia, and the Netherlands! I grew up bilingual (French and Brazilian Portuguese), later learned Spanish, and finally English.

Growing up across languages and cultures shaped how I understand communication — not just as speech, but as identity, connection, and belonging.

My interest in speech pathology began early in life. When we were living in Dubai, my younger brother didn’t have access to the support he needed. Seeing the impact this had on him — and on our family — stayed with me and planted the seed for the work I do today.

Before retraining as a speech pathologist, I worked in communication, events, and marketing. Although I enjoyed the work, I felt drawn to something more meaningful. I wanted a career where I could support families in a practical, real way.

I completed my Master of Speech and Language Pathology at the University of Sydney in 2017.

Since graduating, I have worked in private practice across schools and community settings, supporting children, adults, and families. I also worked at NextSense (formerly the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children) and volunteered at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse with people undergoing treatment for head and neck cancer.

These experiences shaped my calm, practical, and compassionate approach to therapy.

Today, my work focuses on early intervention and supporting multilingual families to feel confident and empowered in their child’s communication journey.
